Please don’t use your toe stops like this..!
The common misconception of how to stop on roller skates
I see a lot of beginners, mostly kids, stop by dragging their toe stop while rolling forward.
Please don’t do this!
I understand how you would think this is what the toe stops are for. But this is actually NOT how the toe stops are intended to be used.
The thing is, this stopping method works, but only at very slow speed, so it’s ok to use it when you’re barely rolling. but this should NOT be the only stopping method you use, because at faster speed, dragging your toe is unstable, and damages your toe stop threads!
In the video above, you can see my whole foot rattling when I drag my toe stops.
Instead, you can learn one these stopping methods:
Plough stop
When you are stable being upright and can roll unassisted, you can learn the plough stop.

T-stop
When you are able to balance on one foot, you can learn the t-stop.

Turn-around toe stop
This one is the most efficient and powerful. You need to be comfortable doing transitions and going backwards for this one.
So there you go.
