How to do a plow stop on roller skates
Plow/plough stop is a must-have skill for any roller skater. It is one of the basics method of stopping, the first one to learn before t-stop and turn-around toe stop.
Watch the video tutorial here:
The Steps
While rolling forward, get into position:
- Wide stance
Wider than your hips, not too wide you lose balance
- Toes pointing straight
Not pointing out / duck feet
- Knees bent
The more bend, the more power to stop.
- Push outwards from the heels
 Focus on pushing the heels.
Tips:
As you get more comfortable, your toes may end up turning in at the end of the stop. This is natural.
Sit into the knee bend!
Common mistakes:
- Feet too narrow - cant push out properly
- Toes pointing outwards while pushing, resulting in a split position :)
